Maidstone East

The Maidstone East ''power box'' came into use on 8th April 1962, controlling three-aspect colour
lights at the station. The cabin's scope was extended considerably in 1984, allowing it to control
the route between Kemsing and Hothfield inclusive. David Glasspool

This close-up view of the ''up'' side shows that traditional sash-style windows have been retained,
and that the platform continues to be constituted of 19th century brickwork, despite the fact that
a number along the route were rebuilt in concrete by the Southern Railway. Currently, Network Rail
is looking for a redevelopment partner for the Maidstone East station site. Raymond Fuell

An eastward view towards Week Street and Wheeler Street Tunnels reveals an escape lane on
the left. Of interest here is the station's composition: whilst the station building is of crème brick
construction, the tunnel surround is instead faced with stone. Raymond Fuell
