Demolition of the original SER buildings had already commenced at the time of this picture: part
of the canopy had gone, and loose bricks were evident along the roof line. David Glasspool

Confirmation that the old buildings were doomed was given by this prematurely exposed sign, which
indicates that the original station entrance via the SER steps is to be permanently closed, and all
traffic handled at the new building. David Glasspool
