Construction Photographs

10th May 2004

The view towards Ebbsfleet on a wet 10th May 2004, the first day of track laying. The first

sections of track are in evidence at the bottom right of the picture. Before the coming of the

railway, a footpath crossed the site, but this was closed during the main works. The new

footbridge seen crossing the track beds subsequently formed part of this dedicated pathway.

The scene just north of the previous picture, looking towards the threshold of the Thames tunnels

at Northfleet on 10th May 2004, reveals a noticeable gradient of the track beds. The elevated

tracks on the right, then known as ''Kent Portal Yard'', have now been lifted in light of the

station construction having now reached a state of completion. David Glasspool

29th June 2004

Compare this photograph on the 29th June to the first photograph on the previous page from

10th May 2004: the differences are quite evident. Since the first day of track laying (10th May

2004) the central elevated section has received two lines and both have been ballasted. A further

two lines have been laid and ballasted on the left-hand side, whilst another two lines are being

laid on the right-hand side. David Glasspool
