Class 33

Crompton

29th April 1997

Dutch-liveried No. 33002 and Network South East-coloured No. 33035 ''Spitfire'' (the latter being

the only Class 33 ever to wear the distinctive ''toothpaste'' scheme), are seen with an engineering

working at Dane Valley, in-between Margate and Broadstairs. Both locomotives survive today;

No. 33002 is at the South Devon Railway, whilst No. 33035 can be found at Barrow Hill roundhouse,

Derbyshire. John Horton

14th August 1987

On the West London Line with a working from the South Eastern Division: Nos. 33031 and

33052 are paused at a semaphore signal at Kensington Olympia on 14th August 1987 whilst

working the Brett Hopper train from Cliffe Gravel Works on the Hoo Peninsula, to Kings Cross.

On the right are the redundant Motorail platforms. David Glasspool Collection

March 1989

Built in March 1962 and originally numbered D6594, No. 33209 was observed in a sorry state in March

1989, at Stewarts Lane. In that month, the locomotive had been involved in a collision at Newington. It

was soon scrapped, being broken up in October of the same year. John Horton
