The finished article: the cleanliness of a new depot site is exemplified in this view of the Hitachi complex, which

includes staff walkways and extensive third rail protective boarding. On the right is No. 395002, which will be

seen in the next photograph. Paul Cooper-Hayden

No. 395002 was on test outside the maintenance building. The unit arrived at Ashford on 20th November 2007,

being dragged from Southampton Docks behind an EWS Class 67, via the Hounslow Loop. The catenary of the

25kV test track can be seen on the left, whilst in the foreground are a pair of shunt signals. Paul Cooper-Hayden

The depot's entrance is located to the west of the site, and a 105-foot span road bridge has been erected over

the Stour. The ''HITACHI'' text is upon the main curved-roof five-road maintenance building; the left-hand

side appendix, with the upward-sloping roof, is the workshop / storage building. The square building on the

extreme right is Ashford IECC (Integrated Electronic Control Centre), from which the majority of the Kent

railway network, and the whole CTRL, is controlled from. David Glasspool
