East Farleigh

28th August 2000

A classic scene at East Farleigh: with the crossing gates closed against the line, Bulleid Light Pacific

No. 34016 ''Bodmin'' is seen fronting the Maidstone West to Tonbridge shuttle service. Six return trips

ran during the day. Denis Hooker

The signal post on the left of this westward view is a GWR round post-type, whilst the taller post

beyond the level crossing is formed from old rail. These replaced concrete signal posts erected by

the SE&CR. Denis Hooker

East Farleigh

A westward view towards Wateringbury on 31st July 2005 reveals the 1844-built station building

surviving on the ''down'' platform, complemented by the 1892-opened signal box just beyond, and

the manually-worked level crossing gates. Also of great interest are the semaphore signal posts

either side of the running lines, and the lattice SER footbridge. David Glasspool
