This 27th July 2005 view towards Halling reveals the 1858 station building, the 1930s concrete

platform sides and a single semaphore signal arm. The main span of the footbridge is evidently

built to a standard length - the staircase on the left has to deviate to remain on the platform.

The gates were still manually worked when seen on 27th July 2005 and the signal box with SER

-sash windows still displayed a Network SouthEast name board. The signal arm is of interest here:

it has been truncated to accommodate the footbridge. David Glasspool

In the background of this Strood-bound view from 27th July 2005 is the Medway Bridge carrying

the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. In the middle distance is a semaphore signal bracket, whilst in the

immediate foreground is a delightful pair of semaphore signal arms - the upper is a ''home'' arm,

the lower a ''distant''. Note above the ''S'' sign a redundant semaphore post: the arm of this formerly

controlled the 1961-installed electrified freight loop. David Glasspool
