15th June 2004

No. 3454 leaving Grosvenor Carriage Shed.

Emerging from the carriage shed of Grosvenor Road heading for Victoria is Vep No. 3454, looking

decidedly clean on 15th June 2004. This formation retired from service in September 2005.

29th December 2004

No. 3579 preparing to stop at Paddock Wood

4 Vep No. 3579 is seen trundling into Paddock Wood on 29th December 2004, pairing with No.

3521 on an Ashford to Charing Cross service. David Glasspool

30th June 3004

No. 3412 terminating at Tunbridge Wells Central

A clean No. 3412 is depicted at Tunbridge Wells Central and is seen reversing here shortly after

arriving from Tonbridge. 4 Ceps and 4 Veps became common on this line from May 1986 after

its electrification, marking the end for the Hastings DMUs. Window bars were fitted to 4 Veps

on the South Eastern division due to restricted tunnel clearances on the Tunbridge Wells to

Hastings line and through Shakespeare Tunnel at Folkestone. With the steady decline of the

class on this route, Class 508s seem to be frequenting services to Tunbridge Wells, travelling

from as far as London Bridge at times. David Glasspool
